MacroMotion began operating in 1986, in Burlington Ontario, as a cylinder repair business, focusing primarily on servicing the steel industry in nearby Hamilton Ontario. Operating under our original name, Quality Cylinder Service Ltd., we soon became recognized as a first class cylinder repair house. In those days, competition was limited to a few players so the business grew quickly.

By 1989, the founder, Mr. Bob MacLeod, sold the business to a pair of local people and the name was changed to Quality Hydraulic Service & Machining Ltd. At this time, although the business still focused on cylinder repair, opportunities to provide custom machining services were frequent and hence the name change.

Then in 1991, a serious recession hit. Business from the steel mills dried up and Quality was forced into receivership in 1993. Mr. Macleod came out of retirement, reacquired the assets and re-opened on the same premises as MacLeod Hydraulic Service & Machining Ltd. The skilled staff, with their years of technical knowledge and expertise, was retained during this transition. With the combination of improving economic conditions and the drive and dedication of Bob MacLeod, the business began to grow and prosper once again.

On April 30, 1995, John and Paul Priestner acquired the business. The Priestners saw a company with skilled, knowledgeable and loyal employees and knew that with their commitment and assistance, something special could be built.

By this time, the company had expanded into hydraulic pump and motor repair, valve repair, on-site service and hydraulic troubleshooting, for a wider array of customers beyond steel. It became apparent very quickly that we needed to secure a major hydraulic brand if we were to continue to serve our customers.

In 1997, we became an authorized Parker Hydraulics Distributor. This event transformed us into a full-service hydraulic house and we renamed the company MacroMotion Hydraulics Inc.

Early in the new millennium our business was actively selling Parker Hydraulics, designing and building systems and power units, repairing most anything hydraulic and manufacturing custom cylinders for a variety of differing clients.

By the mid-point of the decade, competitive pressures pushed us into the world of Pneumatics. As more and more industrial companies closed, it seemed prudent to expand our product offering to our existing customers. In 2005, MacroMotion became an authorized distributor for Numatics.

In 2011, MacroMotion became an authorized distributor for the Asco Valve brand. This event closed the loop for us in terms of our product offering and gave us the strength to embark on a geographic expansion into the GTA. Today we cover the entire Golden Horseshoe, from Nanticoke through Brantford and Niagara through Mississauga.

In 2012, we formally changed our operating name to MacroMotion Fluid Power, to more accurately reflect the diversity in our core product offerings. As we are today, we have morphed into a full service fluid power company, offering hydraulic components, pneumatic products, solenoid and process valves, accessories, cylinder repair, pump and component repair, 24/7 on-site service, routine fluid power maintenance services and filter changes, power units, engineered systems and most recently, integrated safety systems to comply with Ministry of Labour and workplace safety directives.
